Sneaker socks are low socks that are mainly worn in a sneaker or low shoe. These socks leave your ankles visible. For sports activities, thick ankle socks are often used. Sneaker socks feel like a men's sock without an ankle. Sneaker socks are also called ankle socks, except that the band is around or just above the ankle.
Ankle socks are smaller than regular men's socks, and therefore lighter. Because the ankle sock leaves your ankle visible, the socks are also considerably colder when the wind blows on them or in a cold environment. The elastic band does not leave an impression on your ankle: the socks have (usually) a good fit. But what types of men's and women's sneaker socks can be distinguished?
Casual socks
Under less traditional outfits you can wear casual socks. These socks are designed for comfort, not tradition. Nowadays these comfortable socks are becoming more and more modern, they are an indispensable part of the street scene. There are various casual socks available. Casual socks are distinguished by (often) the use of a higher percentage of cotton. For example, the Casual ankle socks from SOLIT have 80% (!) cotton (2% more than 'normal' socks).
No-show socks
Invisible socks ('invisible socks' in Dutch), or 'no-show socks', are very low ankle socks. Invisible socks are so low that they do not come above the shoe. This makes it look like you are not wearing any socks at all. These socks only cover your sole, toes and heel. Most invisible socks have a gel pad in the heel, which prevents the sock from slipping off, which is why these socks are also called 'grip socks'. Did you know?: Slipping ankle socks are one of the biggest sock irritations . This is prevented by SOLIT with a renewed band that keeps the sneaker socks in place.
You wear invisible socks best with casual outfits, for example on sneakers. Invisible socks give a nonchalant, summery look to your outfit. No-show socks are also very suitable when you go for a summery look. We advise against invisible socks for business occasions. For business occasions, your ankle should be covered in most cases.
Sports socks
Sports socks are thick cotton socks with sturdy elastic, which are wear-resistant and absorb a lot of sweat. (Do you suffer a lot from sweaty feet? Read here how to prevent sweaty feet! ) These are very strong socks, specially developed for athletes. These properties make sports socks very comfortable. The best-known are of course the white sports socks. These socks are coming back into fashion. Both high and low in the shoe.
There are special socks for every sport. For example, socks for skiing, running and walking . All these socks offer extra protection and comfort during sports. Furthermore, the socks breathe better, due to the use of special material such as bamboo . Good sports socks are therefore an important part of your sports outfit.
Seamless socks – the luxury version
There are no truly seamless socks. This is because socks are woven on a cylinder; the end of the sock must always be secured to prevent a hole at both ends. The cheapest way to do this is to turn the sock inside out and machine stitch it. The seam must always be secured at the ends, so there is always a small bulge at the ends.
It is possible to make the seam much finer by stitching the sock closed by hand. This is precision work done by hand. We call this a 'hand-linked' seam.
