How can you best prevent blisters?

Hoe kan je blaren voorkomen?

Bubbles are often small, but say nothing about the pain and irritation they cause. They are simply a nightmare for everyone, whether you are taking a long walk or spending hours in the gym. For athletes, they can greatly affect training performance. With every movement, the piece of skin on the back of your foot becomes more sensitive. How do most bubbles form and how can we best prevent them? Read about it here.

What is a bubble?

Actually, a bubble is a natural bandage that your skin creates. Due to excessive rubbing or pressure on one fixed spot, your skin forms a fluid-filled sac that softens the resistance at the pressure point. The clear fluid visible under your skin is blood plasma. This is actually the same as blood, but without red blood cells (hence the transparent color). In daily life, this plasma is very important because it causes blood to clot when it comes into contact with the outside air through a cut or other cause.

A bubble forms by continuously applying pressure to the same spot. This mainly happens due to friction between your shoe and the back of your foot. The back of your shoe rubs against your skin and applies steady pressure on the same spot of your heel while walking. After a short time, a red spot appears here, after which the bubble with fluid forms. The pressure is usually caused by shoes that are too small, too wide, too much rubbing, or too much movement between your foot and the shoe.

How do you prevent bubbles?

How do we prevent bubbles? A bubble plaster is of course a good solution. The plaster forms extra protection so the bubble is less noticeable. Still, prevention is better than cure, so we look for a suitable solution. Besides wearing good shoes, we can prevent most causes by wearing good socks. Consider the following solutions:

  • Wear socks with an absorbing property, such as bamboo socks or good quality cotton socks. The balance between breathability and moisture absorption prevents increased rubbing on vulnerable spots.
  • Change socks daily. And the SOLIT tip is to change your socks twice a day during sports activities like fitness or hobby sports. This prevents the sock’s effectiveness from decreasing during wear.
  • It is also important to change socks in bad weather. If your feet swim in your shoes after a rain shower, let them air dry and change both socks and shoes. This prevents a lot of pain from bubbles once the rain has passed.

Socks and bubbles

The ultimate solution is when wearing good socks is immediately recognized as a good tip. Since normal socks quickly slip down or slide inside your shoe, only an ankle sock offers a solution if it stays on your ankle. SOLIT socks have a reinforced band so the sock stays neatly on your ankle. The skin of your heel never comes into direct contact with the inside of your shoe, so the inner material protects you against bubble formation. Be timely, because your next workout or walk can already be pain-free when you get SOLIT at home!

You get bubbles from rubbing and sweat in your shoes – not pleasant. Choose socks from our women’s sneaker sock collection with seamless properties. Our bamboo socks absorb sweat well and ventilate nicely, so your feet stay dry and your socks stay in place, even after that long walk or tough workout.

Athletes get bubbles more often than average. The combination of sweat, repeated movement, and socks shifting in your sports shoes is a recipe for bubble formation.
